VIDEO-MAN
FRANCIS
History: Video-Man used to be a sprite creature created by Electro. Its abilities include moving through and manipulating electronic circuits, and Video-Man is used by Electro to suck in and entrap Spider-Man, Flash Thompson, Firestar and Iceman into a video game display where Electro attempts to destroy the four. However, Flash is able to save himself and the others by escaping through the monitor and into Electro's electronic components to save the others. The Spider-Friends then managed to defeat both Video-Man and Electro by having them shoot each other. Electro was stunned, but Video-Man was apparently destroyed.
Francis Byte used to be a typical nerd as well as an avid videogame player who was especially engrossed into gaining the high score on "Zellman Command" at the local arcade. However, when a villain known as the Gamesman sendt a hypnotic signal that entrances over 300,000 people in the city (with the exception of Francis' girlfriend Louise, Spider-Man and Firestar), the signal does not affect Francis' mind, which is distracted from entrancement by Louise and the game. After Louise walked away after having her pleas being shrugged off by Francis, he (unbeknownst to any others) played the arcade machine so hard that it and other arcade machines (most of which are emitting the hypnotic waves) explode. The explosion caused Francis to be merged with Video-Man, who had been trapped in limbo, travelling from one arcade cabinet to another. Francis then found out that he could turn into his new alter-ego at will. However, he was completely inexperienced with his handling of such powerful abilities. He tried to help the Spider-Friends (which had awakened Iceman from his trance) against a hypnotized mob, but they repelled his offers due to his inexperience. He then tried to save Louise from the Gamesman, but was then easily blackmailed into manipulating a military weapons calculation system in return for Louise's freedom, an offer that is then reneged upon by the Gamesman. Enraged at the trickery, Video-Man helps Spider-Man and the others to free Louise and also reversed his stoppage of the military computer. After the Gamesman was defeated, Francis accepted an invitation to join the X-Men, while Louise accepted him and his abilities.
Now, Francis is being personally taught by Professor Charles Xavier to learn how to use his powers competently.
Weapons: Himself
Powers: Video-Man can emit rapid fire energy blasts which emerge from each arm as a multitude of two-dimensional rectangular shapes that explode upon contact with other objects. In its two-sided form, Videoman possesses enough "strength" (force) to punch through solid ice.
Skill: Francis is a skilled video gamer and mathematician.
Trivia (Optional):
-Francis Byte... become... VIDEO-MAN!!!
Sample of how you'll play this character:
Video-Man was aiming his beams at some holographic opponents in the Danger Room. Professor Charles Xavier observed Video-Man as he trained. Suddenly, the simulation stops. Xavier goes into the Danger Room as Video-Man changes back to Francis.
"You're doing fine, Francis. You are really learning to control your powers really fast." said Xavier.
"Thank you, Professor... I... WHOA!!!" said Francis as he went to the Professor, but tripped and fell to the ground. "Sorry, Professor."
"Don't worry about it, Francis. It's part of your nature... however, I noticed that when you're Video-Man, your clumsy traits seem to be gone." said Xavier.
"Yeah, well... I dunno why that is... but when I'm Video-Man... I sorta... focus too much on my mission, I guess... I'm not as distracted as I normally am." said Francis.
"That's good... that means that we're succeeding... you are learning to live with these powers you have..." said Xavier.
