ELIZABETH
DAHLIA
History: Elizabeth Short was born in Boston in 1924. When she was young, Elizabeth and her family moved around America until they found out that her father was alive and had moved to California. She established herself in Los Angeles and worked as a waitress. 22-year old Elizabeth had dreams of becoming a movie star, and she certainly had the looks of one. However, fate would play against her and she would never accomplish her dream. On the morning of January 15, 1947, a woman named Betty Bersinger was taking a stroll with her child when she discovered Elizabeth's horribly mutilated corpse lying on a vacant lot on the west side of South Norton Avenue.
Although it would seem like the end of a life, Elizabeth's spirit lived on, knowing of her fate, but not remembering who was her executioner. She wandered around the plain, looking at people living their lives, calling herself "The Black Dahlia" (the name the locals gave her due to her tendency to wear black clothes, and the name which the newspapers gave her when her murder was published). Elizabeth felt abandoned and cheated of her life.
Now, Elizabeth keeps wandering around this plain and fighting criminals in order to avenge her own death. Having lost hope of ever having a normal life and accomplishing her dreams, she wishes someone could understand the kind of pain she's going through.
Equipment: N/A
Powers: The Dahlia has the ability to materialize into this plain of reality (in other words, you would be able to see her and touch her) and change back to her spirit form at will. She can also fire beams from her eyes, which can be set to stun or kill (though she doesn't use the kill beams that often), and she can hypnotize the enemy. Another ability she has gained is her healing ability. However, she is not unbeatable. She can be weakened by energy-draining devices and magic-powered stun rays.
Skill: The Dahlia is a good hand-to-hand combatant and martial artist.
Trivia (Optional):
-The horrific Black Dahlia murder is a real life event that happened back in 1947.
-Mercedes McCambridge actually played Elizabeth Short's grandmother in the 1975 TV movie "Who Is The Black Dahlia?".
Sample of how you'll play this character:
The Black Dahlia was standing on top of a building. She was in spirit form, so no one could see her. She saw a happy couple walking around the streets with their baby. She smiled a bit as she saw this, but then frowned, knowing that she would never have that kind of life. She then tears up.
"Why? Why did it have to be me? I never did anything wrong to anybody... why am I being punished like this?" said the Dahlia as she looked at the sky.
She then floated around and saw Carl Morrell in his apartment. He was lying in bed, looking at the roof. The Dahlia noticed that this boy was also alone, and had trouble with his own existence.
"So... you have trouble dealing with your problems, too? Guess we're quite similar..." thought the Dahlia as she looked at Carl from outside.
Carl gets up and looks at himself in the mirror. He then reacts with disgust when he sees his own face, hating himself for all the suffering he has caused. He then picks up a picture of himself when he was a boy, hugging his Uncle Max.
"If only... I had been older... I could have saved you..." said Carl sadly.
The Dahlia then looks down and wandered off, once again, her thoughts being of sadness and despair.
